Daniel Berger, who owns and operates RE/MAX Prestige Properties in White Plains, has published a collection of true stories from his real estate career titled Adventures of a Real Estate Broker: And Other Stories. The 14-chapter book, available on Amazon in print and digital formats, documents experiences from over a decade of selling homes across New York and Connecticut. Berger emphasized that the book contains no selling frameworks or scripts, just authentic narratives from his work.
The project began in spring 2024 when Berger collaborated with Bailey Herman, a college student and his son's girlfriend who aspired to become a writer. During recorded interviews, Herman transcribed and shaped each chapter in Berger's voice, completing the manuscript by her graduation the following May. The process faced a significant challenge when an AI-assisted editor compromised the writing quality, requiring Berger's wife Elyse, an attorney with editorial experience, to salvage and refine the original drafts.
Berger launched the book with a backyard party at his home attended by 150 guests, including individuals featured in the stories who read their own chapters. The 170-page full-color book now serves as a unique marketing tool during listing appointments, where Berger autographs copies with personal messages for clients. He noted this approach creates a more memorable impression than traditional market reports.
The stories range from humorous to deeply human experiences, illustrating what Berger describes as the people-focused nature of real estate. One chapter details his assistance to a 94-year-old man evicted from his apartment, including court representation, help finding senior housing, and regular grocery deliveries to the client's new residence in Connecticut. Another chapter involves unexpected discoveries during property showings that reveal the unpredictable situations brokers encounter.
Berger explained that real estate involves more than transactions, stating agents participate in significant life moments where clients often need support beyond listing agreements. The book has received positive feedback, including a testimonial from his son who remarked, "I hate real estate, but this book is actually good." Berger also hosts a weekly podcast of the same name available on platforms including Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube.
