Hong Kong Electronics Fairs Draw 61,000 Buyers as AI and Robotics Demand Surges

The 46th Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition) and the 29th electronicAsia, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and MMI Asia, concluded with over 61,000 buyers from 141 countries and regions, reinforcing Hong Kong's position as an international trading hub. The four-day event, held under the EXHIBITION+ hybrid format, attracted buyers primarily from the Chinese Mainland, India, Japan, and the United States, with notable growth from Kazakhstan and Brazil. This strong turnout underscores Hong Kong's enduring appeal as a platform connecting global innovation and technology industries with international markets.

The fairs focused on three themes: AI & Robotics, Smart Wellness, and NEXTEntertainment, with dedicated zones for electronic components, display technologies, and manufacturing services. Silas Chu, HKTDC Associate Executive Director, noted that the fairs generated significant sourcing momentum and facilitated numerous business deals. He emphasised that trade fairs are evolving beyond product showcases to become platforms for innovation, industry exchange, and cross-sector collaboration. The newly introduced Future Industries Zone and GoGlobal Connect Zone were particularly well-received, reflecting strong demand from Chinese Mainland enterprises seeking to expand overseas and leverage Hong Kong's professional services.

An independent survey of over 1,150 buyers and exhibitors revealed that 96% expect sales to increase or remain stable over the next 12 to 24 months. Optimism was highest for ASEAN (83%), the Middle East (83%), and the Chinese Mainland (81%). Notably, 74% of companies are already applying or planning to apply generative AI technologies, with applications spanning product design, data analysis, and customer engagement. Nearly 60% identified AI as the technology expected to have the greatest impact on the industry in the next two years, solidifying its role as a key growth driver.

The fairs featured more than 3,200 exhibitors from 15 countries and regions, and the HKTDC organised 130 buying missions involving buyers from 65 countries, including Samsung Electronics and SSG.com from Korea, Mercado Libre from Argentina, and Reichelt Elektronik from Germany. RoboPark and the Future Industries Zone were major highlights, showcasing over 120 robots in areas such as commercial services, industrial logistics, and healthcare. Companies like UBTECH, AgiBot, and DEEP Robotics demonstrated practical applications, while Booster Robotics, winner of the 2026 RoboCup World Championship, attracted around 100 buyer visits daily. Yang Liuyang, APAC Sales Director of Booster Robotics, said the company plans to appoint one to two distributors in Hong Kong this quarter to accelerate commercialisation.

The GoGlobal Connect Zone supported Chinese Mainland enterprises with financing, intellectual property, and compliance services. Huahon Data Technology, a provider of liquid-cooled AI computing systems, connected with buyers from Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, and intends to establish a registered company in Hong Kong within one to two months. The fairs also attracted global buyers like Cizar Abughazaleh of Dubai-based Action to Action, who purchased robots for educational applications, and Fabio Marqui of Brazil's Hayamax, who finalised a US$200,000 order and expects four new collaborations. These outcomes highlight Hong Kong's unique role as a gateway connecting the Chinese Mainland with international markets.

Looking ahead, the HKTDC will organise the Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Autumn Edition), the Hong Kong International Outdoor and Tech Light Expo, and Eco Expo Asia later this month. These events align with the Hong Kong SAR Government's Policy Address and first Five-Year Plan, which emphasise accelerating innovation and technology development and promoting AI adoption. The online editions of both fairs remain open until 23 October, extending business matching opportunities. Photos are available for download.
