Wearable Devices Ltd. (NASDAQ: WLDS) has entered into a strategic collaboration agreement with Cord Technologies Inc. (“Encord”) to integrate its wrist-based neural sensing technology with Encord’s Physical AI data infrastructure and visual data capabilities. The partnership, led by Wearable Devices’ Physical AI business unit Kavana, aims to develop multimodal training datasets that merge neuromuscular signals from hand and finger movements with visual information. This could significantly improve the robustness of AI systems in real-world scenarios where hands or objects are partially obscured, according to the announcement.
The collaboration establishes a commercial framework under which Encord may purchase Wearable Devices’ Mudra Pro and Mudra Ultimate devices, which capture surface electromyography (sEMG) signals, and use the collected data to develop datasets for third-party Physical AI and robotics developers. Wearable Devices would generate revenue from device sales and usage-based compensation for qualifying data collection activities. The companies are already working together on data collection, testing, and integration, with plans to explore applications in humanoid robotics and advanced robotic manipulation.
This partnership matters because it positions Wearable Devices at the intersection of two rapidly growing fields: neural input technology and Physical AI. By providing a complementary data source to camera-based systems, the company’s sEMG technology could fill critical gaps in training data for robots that need to operate in cluttered or occluded environments. The agreement also creates a potential new revenue stream for Wearable Devices, leveraging its hardware and data collection capabilities beyond consumer wearables.
For investors, the collaboration signals a strategic move into the enterprise and robotics markets, where demand for high-quality, multimodal training data is surging. Wearable Devices’ existing consumer products, the Mudra Band and Mudra Link, have already established the company in the neural input category for wrist-worn devices and brain-computer interfaces. The new ai6 Labs ecosystem further integrates research, products, and AI breakthroughs, aligning with the company’s vision of seamless, natural user experiences.
