Knowledge workers spend an average of 2.5 hours per day searching for information or verifying AI-generated answers, according to IDC. For a 1,000-person organization, that inefficiency costs more than $5 million annually. Cognatum, launched today, aims to solve this problem with the first Intelligence Management System for regulated enterprises.
The core issue is that AI systems often lack a reliable source of truth. They generate confident answers even when not based on accurate, current, or approved information. In 2018, the International Organization for Standardization published ISO 30401, providing a formal standard for knowledge management systems (KMS). However, that standard assumed humans were the primary consumers of knowledge. With AI now reading documents and answering questions at machine speed, the standard's assumptions are obsolete.
Cognatum addresses this by building on ISO 30401 foundations and extending them for the AI age. The system runs a continuous knowledge lifecycle loop with eight steps across four phases: Intake, Refine, Elevate, and Govern & Activate. AI handles ingestion, deduplication, enrichment, and deployment, while humans retain approval authority. This ensures every answer is defensible, with a clear record of who approved it, when, and from what source.
The platform connects bidirectionally to more than 50 enterprise systems, including SharePoint, Box, Salesforce, HubSpot, Snowflake, Confluence, Microsoft Teams, Jira, ServiceNow, and Workday. It operates above existing repositories without requiring data migration, preserving data sovereignty through single-tenant or air-gapped deployments.
"Every enterprise AI conversation eventually arrives at the same question, and it isn't about the model," said Perry Robinson, CEO of Cognatum. "It's about finding the answer and knowing the answer is right. That's a knowledge management problem, and knowledge management stopped being a project the day the primary consumer became a machine. It's a loop now. The AI runs it. Humans hold the gate."
Cognatum is available now, with first customer cohorts going live this month and additional cohorts through the fall. Each engagement begins with a 30-day beta on the customer's own instance. The system includes Microsoft Teams-native approvals and full API and MCP endpoints for downstream agents. For more information, visit cognatum.ai.
