FingerMotion (NASDAQ: FNGR) has entered into a binding agreement with BlueFlare Group Holdings Inc. to acquire approximately 20.2 acres in Hanna, Alberta, for the development of Hanna Campus #1, an AI inference compute campus. The planned site envisions 3 MW of local grid supply and 3 MW of behind-the-meter natural gas generation, totaling 6 MW of capacity. This project is in addition to FingerMotion's previously announced 99 MW Alberta development program, underscoring the company's ambitious expansion into the AI infrastructure space.
The move is significant because it marks a strategic pivot for FingerMotion, a company traditionally known for its mobile payment and recharge platform solutions in China. By venturing into AI compute infrastructure, FingerMotion aims to diversify its revenue streams and tap into the rapidly growing demand for AI processing power. The Hanna Campus will focus on AI inference, which is critical for deploying trained machine learning models in real-world applications. This aligns with the broader industry trend of increasing investment in edge computing and localized AI processing to reduce latency and bandwidth costs.
The agreement includes a 60-day due diligence period covering title, environmental condition, zoning and permits, utilities, access, and financing. Closing is scheduled 30 days after conditions are waived. BlueFlare will design, build, and operate the site's power and infrastructure, with development permit applications planned during due diligence and construction expected to follow closing and permit approval. This structured approach mitigates risks and ensures that the project progresses smoothly through regulatory hurdles.
For investors, this development could be a catalyst for FingerMotion's stock, as it positions the company in the high-growth AI infrastructure sector. The global AI race is driving demand for data centers and compute capacity, and FingerMotion's entry could attract attention from institutional investors looking for exposure to this theme. Moreover, the Alberta location offers advantages such as access to natural gas and a favorable regulatory environment for energy projects.
