Safe Pro Group (NASDAQ: SPAI), a developer of artificial intelligence-enabled defense, security, and situational awareness solutions, has entered into a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC). The collaboration will focus on AI-powered image analysis, leveraging object detection, uncrewed aerial systems (UAS), and sensors to collect and analyze data for situational awareness and planning in both military and civil contexts, including disaster response.
The partnership will utilize Safe Pro's Safe Pro Object Threat Detection (SPOTD) AI platform, which analyzes drone imagery and video to automatically detect and classify explosive threats and other objects of interest. SPOTD is capable of identifying more than 150 types of landmines and unexploded ordnance (UXO) and has been operational in Ukraine for nearly three years, where it has analyzed over 2.9 million images, identified 54,328 threats, and covered approximately 37,900 acres.
This CRADA underscores the growing importance of AI in defense and humanitarian operations. By combining Safe Pro's commercial off-the-shelf drone technology with ERDC's research capabilities, the project aims to improve the speed and accuracy of threat detection, potentially reducing risks to personnel and enabling faster response in disaster scenarios.
